In early August, 2021, Bersirc, Inc. announced that they had stopped development of their commercial product, Bersirc Guide, earlier this month. They cited a need to spend more time working on "other product lines". This news was somewhat surprising since Bersirc was one of the more popular open source products available at the time. The company did not provide any indication as to what they will or won't be doing in the future. If you were one of Bersirc's loyal customers, and if you were looking for an application which complements the product and provides the same functions, you might like to download and try out the Windows port of Bersirc.
Bersirc is an open source Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client for the Microsoft Windows operating systems. Like most otherirc clients, it includes a number of features including a robust security framework, powerful configuration abilities and the ability to access and share a variety of data through the use of OTC (off-the-shelf) or IDT VoIP services. Bersirc, however, goes a step further than mostirc clients by allowing you to run a free software client for the Windows operating system, as well. As with most free software clients, the client will require that you first download and install the software onto your computer, and then that you connect to IRC. There are a few simple steps required to get this process started: first, make sure that you have the proper ports set up on your windows PC; second, download and install the free software client from Bersirc's website. Finally, download and save the final file to your desktop or other location where you will be able to launch the client.
This application has been released as a free software program and is available to anyone who wishes to download, install and use it. Unlike many otherirc clients, however, this application does not include any kind of security protection against unauthorized server connections, and anyone who knows how to get past that security blocker can just go ahead and connect to a server behind that has the software installed. Because of this, however, it is recommended that you install Bersirc onto a separate computer than the one where you intend to use it. For those who already have another computer that works perfectly fine as a server and for whom the additional cost of the software is not a problem, the Bersirc application can be a great tool for simplifying your communication with fellow conference attendees.
